The 33-year-old finally topped the podium at the Games after winning a medal at the last three editions - but never gold.

Crovetto, a three-time Olympian, including carrying Chile's flag at the Tokyo 2020 Opening Ceremony, won a dramatic final at the Polígono de tiro de Pudahuel.

She was tied with Mexico's Gabriela Rodriguez on 50 points after 60 shots, meaning a shoot-off was needed to separate the pair.

It was the Chilean who kept her nerve by hitting all four targets, with Rodriguez missing one and having to settle for silver.

Daniella Borda of Peru won bronze with a score of 40 points.

Crovetto had won silver at the Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games, bronze at Toronto 2015 and silver again at Lima 2019.

"It made me cry Francisca," said Chile's shooting coach Jorge Atalah.

"The truth is that I am very excited about this medal.

"It's a medal we've been waiting for for a while, because Francisca has been shooting very well in recent years, and she deserved it.

"This is an injection of energy for everyone."

In the men's skeet final, American Vincent Hancock won his third Pan American Games gold, but his first for 12 years.

The Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, who was the United States flagbearer at Santiago 2023 with gymnast Jordan Chiles, came out on top after a battle with Argentina's Federico Gil.

Both men missed just once in their first 26 shots, but Hancock hit the front with four from four in the ninth series with Gil managing only two.

Hancock held on for gold on a score of 57, with Gil on 56.

The victory for 34-year-old Hancock meant he added to the Pan American titles he won in Rio de Janeiro in 2007 and Guadalajara in 2011.
