Lima is the capital of Peru, a political, economic and cultural center of the country.

Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, the city is a curious blend of modern megacity with some "islands of modernity", large but orderly slums and colonial architecture in the center of the city. Lima was the headquarters of the Spanish government for 300 years, and as such it has wonderful churches, cloisters and monasteries.

Lima is the best place to taste Peruvian cuisine, which has a huge variety of ingredients from the regions of the coast, Sierra and jungle. The cold sea stream that passes through the coast of Peru makes the sea very rich in fish and seafood.

Areas of Lima

Lima is a great city, and in order to facilitate the understanding of tourists, we have divided it into sectors or areas that group the districts.

Districts of Lima, grouped in sectors
Central Lima (Central Lima area). With some popular districts such as Breña, La Victoria and El Agustino and with central and tourist areas such as the Lima fence. The Cercado itself also has some residential areas such as Los Cipreses, Mateo Salado and Mirones.)
Districts: Lima Cercado, La Victoria, San Luis, Breña, Jesús María, Lince, Rimac, El Agustino.

Districts: Chorrillos, Barranco, Miraflores, San Isidro, Magdalena del Mar, Pueblo Libre, San Miguel.
East Lima (The eastern part of the city). There are residential areas like La Molina, populous areas like Ate Vitarte, and rural areas like Chosica and Cieneguilla. Santa Anita is Lima's Grand Wholesale Market, where you can get quality fruit and vegetables at really cheap prices.)
Districts: La Molina, Cieneguilla, Ate Vitarte, Santa Anita, San Juan de Lurigancho, Lurigancho-Chosica, Chaclacayo.

Climate

Lima offers a humid climate all year round (especially in the west) being varied sometimes, peculiar, with lots of rain in winter and few heavy rains in summer.

Summer is warm and humid, very sunny and the average temperature is 20 to 31 degrees, but it is variable. The highest temperature is 34 degrees recorded in the city. Sporadic rainfall in this season is possible but it is of short duration varying from light to strong intensity located further to the center or east of the capital. Both autumn and spring offer an average of 26 degrees respectively. And winter offers temperatures ranging from 14 or 15 for minimum temperatures and from 18 to 20 for maximum temperatures, although there are years in which the minimum temperature can fall to 12 or 11 degrees, with 10 degrees being the lowest temperature recorded. At this time, the weather is mostly cloudy and humid with much fog or haze in the mornings more in coastal cities. There are many light or sometimes small rains of light intensity but sporadic. The weather outside of Lima is sunny to glacial depending on where I go. Well, Lima has plains, mountains like beaches.

Summer in Lima is mostly sunny with cool to slightly warm nights. In the daytime period the temperature reaches up to 26 degrees in January, in February 26 to 30, being the hottest month. The month of March remains on average from 25 to 31, which is an average of the previous two months being also sunny. The moisture present makes you feel warmer.

In the morning, winters in Lima are cold, reaching 14 or 15 degrees, although sometimes you can record temperatures that are lower than these. The afternoons are cold, slightly cold to fresh, the temperatures vary from 16 to 20 degrees. The weather remains mostly cloudy all day, and the humidity is high giving a lower thermal sensation than it does, it feels colder. Haze and haze appear from May to November mostly in coastal cities. Light drizzle appearance is possible.

Anyway, the autumn and spring seasons offer cold nights, a little bit fresh. The afternoons are fresh to slightly warm, in terms or early of these seasons there could be cold or warm days, alteration or passage of cold or warm fronts is possible which come mostly from the south providing in itself warm or cold air.

The traveler is advised that if you want to visit Lima, pack in your suitcase clothes of all kinds of seasons, whether summer, spring, autumn or winter.

Culture

Lima is a thousand-year-old city, here various civilizations developed, having Caral as the oldest, among many others. The Incas, the last locals in the management of the area, also left their mark on this territory, which later, with the colony, received migrations from much more distant origins, Africa, Asia and Europe developing a great intersection of all this diversity.

However, Lima, and also Peruvian, is a profoundly racist society. The visitor will be able to feel this issue with particular attention as many of the people discuss this issue without hesitation, in an effort to make this problem visible. A special approach to this issue can be seen at the National Museum of Archeology, Anthropology and History of Peru and at the Museo Lugar de la Memory.

The Incas were architects and hydraulic experts, they took advantage of the Pacha Mama (Mother Earth) by creating Andenes and large irrigation channels. They handled their people with order and discipline.

  • Airport

If you arrive by plane, you can choose public transport. For example, if you want to go to Miraflores, you can take the blue IM-18 route bus called Las Flores 18. It has a number 18 to identify it, and it has an electronic en route panel S.M.P. - SURCO. It will cost 2 soles to Miraflores, the bus goes straight and has enough room for luggage. The bus will leave you at the Miraflores Oval or Kennedy Park.

You can also choose to go by taxi. Official airport taxis usually charge about $40, depending on the distance. If you want something more economical, you can take an unofficial taxi from the airport parking lot, but agree to the price first with the driver, in this case you can pay PEN 30 or PEN 40 to Miraflores or Barranco. Be careful about the amounts agreed, as there may be "confusions" if you don't point out "x soles" instead of "x dollars" (this is not the case in the rest of the city, where taxi prices will always be in soles).

To go to the airport, it is best to call a taxi company, which will charge about S/.40 from areas close to Miraflores, there won't be so much difference in price with a street taxi (maybe this is a S/.30 or more). To exchange euros or dollars to soles and vice versa, it is best to do it outside the airport, in a particular exchange house. Don't do it with changers, they can assault him.

By train

From La Oroya and Huancayo, you can catch a train to Lima. It is not recommended, as unlike the bus, it takes 12 hours.

On Bus

Apart from Plaza Norte, each company has its own terminals, most of them concentrated in front of the National Stadium, although some elsewhere. To reach Lima from international destinations, such as Argentina and Chile, there are several companies that provide this service, one of which can be El Rápido International, for example the trip from Lima to Mendoza (Argentina) lasts about 2 days. You can go by Metropolitano to the National Stadium station, or you can go by taxi.

You can also choose to travel from the Gran Terminal Terrestrial located in the Plaza Norte Shopping Center at the junction of the Tomás Valle, Túpac Amaru and Alfredo Mendiola (Panamericana Norte) Avenues, in the district of Independence. You can get there in a taxi or at the Metropolitano's service (ticket costs PEN 2.00, new PEN 5.00 card, which comes with a balance of PEN 0.50), to Tomas Valle station, then exit north, cross the traffic light and enter the terminal.

Internal transport

Public transport

Micros, combis, coasters, buses, etc. are the main transport in Lima. They are operated by more than 600 transport companies.

For example, if you want to go from the airport to Magdalena, Miraflores or Surco you will have to take a blue Modasa Titan bus of route IM-18 called Las Flores 18. The ticket to Miraflores is 2 soles while to Surco is 50 soles. This route is indispensable for the tourist arriving by plane to Lima and going to host.

For more information, there is the blog http://infotransportenlima.blogspot.pe/. There's all the transport information in this city, constantly updated.

The other runs along Javier Prado, Faustino Sánchez Carrión and La Marina avenues, passing through La Molina, Monterrico (Surco), San Borja, San Isidro, Pueblo Libre and San Miguel (red corridor). The first has a cost of PEN 1.20 and the second is a cost of PEN 1.50.

By taxi

The Lima Taxi is very cheap and there are plenty of taxis in the city, but if you are a tourist, it is advisable to call companies offering taxi services or at least take yellow taxis with painted plates, which identifies them as registered taxis and so you can take them more safely.

He always negotiates and agrees on the price of the taxi ride before he comes to the vehicle. Only companies that are called by telephone or those that are at the airport have pre-established rates.
